The queen of agaves! An incredible plant. When first glimpsed it does not look real, but like an artichoke carved out of green stone! A great container plant that is cold-hardy enough to be used in colder southern landscapes. A slow-growing, stalkless succulent from Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, in Mexico (where it is endangered). Named after the English queen Victoria, the Agave victoriae-reginae is a striking solitaire agave.
It has small rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves with a thin white line on the edges. At the end of each leaf is a very sharp spine. This plant may take 40 years to produce pale green to creamy flowers on a tall stalk.
